Webinar series on Quality and Reproducibility issues

EATRIS is running a series of webinars in the fall of this year, looking at reproducibility issues experienced during specific phases of the drug development pipeline (screening, preclinical models, biomarker development & analytical platforms, clinical validation). These webinars are developed in close collaboration with other Research Infrastructures (EU-OPENSCREEN, INFRAFRONTIER, BBMRI, ECRIN) and initiatives such as Translation Together.

The webinars will be brought to you by experts in the field and include an audience Q&A session during which attendees can ask questions at the end of the lecture. All webinars will be recorded and available for later viewing.

11.7 teslas: The World-Record Magnetic Field Generated by a Human MRI Magnet

The Iseult project magnet being installed at Neurospin (CEA Paris-Saclay) reached a nominal magnetic field of 11.7 teslas (T) on July 18, 2019. This is a world record for a whole-body magnetic resonance imager (MRI) magnet, the culmination of years of R&D and at the forefront of innovation in the field of superconducting magnets. Over the coming months, the equipment required for neuroimaging will be installed around the magnet and in its central tube to create a human MRI scanner capable of examining the brain more accurately than ever before, in the interest of fundamental research, cognitive sciences and diagnosing neurodegenerative diseases.

A new target to treat spinocerebellar ataxia ?

Spinocerebellar ataxias are genetic neurodegenerative diseases of the cerebellum and brainstem causing numerous motor disorders, for which no curative or preventive therapies are available. SCA3 or Machado-Joseph disease (MJD) is the most prevalent ataxia worldwide. In their work published on June 14 in Acta Neuropathologica, Nathalie Cartier-Lacave, researcher from Inserm at the Brain and Spine Institute and NeurATRIS member, and her team have discovered the crucial role of an enzyme allowing to alleviate symptoms of the disease in mice.

NeurATRIS supports YRLS 2019

The Young Researchers in Life Sciences congress (YRLS) 2019 edition will take place on June 4-6, 2019 at Institut Imagine in Paris, with the support of NeurATRIS.

Co-organized by several leading research institutes in France, the YRLS conference welcomes each year more than 200 attendees from several countries. Its brings together young scientists from various fields and backgrounds allowing them to present their ongoing work, exchange ideas, learn from experts and build new collaborations. The conference features an interactive program that includes posters, talks and round tables designed for young researchers. The wide variety of represented disciplines and topics allows attendees to deepen their knowledge of their research field while broadening their horizons.

During this edition foccussed on 3 broad themes: "Decode. Innovate. Unravel.", Ali Aït-Ikhlef, NeurATRIS partnership manager, will briefly present the infrastructure and its interest for young researchers.

Second series of NeurATRIS/EATRIS webinars on tools for the study of neurodegenerative diseases

We are pleased to announce that EATRIS and NeurATRIS are launching a second series of webinars on neurodegenerative diseases in April-May of this year. The series will cover the usage of biological and technological tools such as preclinical models or ultra high field MRI in neurodegenerative diseases and their potential application in translational medicine. These webinars will be brought to you by experts in the field, each time in collaboration with a specialized European Research Infrastructure.

All webinars are free of charge. The webinars include an audience Q&A session during which attendees can ask questions at the end of the lecture. Please note that all webinars will be recorded and available for later viewing.

The first session of this series took place on April 17th at 11:00 AM and was jointly animated by EATRIS, NeurATRIS and Celphedia.

The second session will take place on May 6th at 11:00 AM and will be jointly animated by EATRIS, NeurATRIS and France Life Imaging.

Medical Research Infrastructures EATRIS, ECRIN and BBMRI sign long-term collaboration agreement

The Biobanking and BioMolecular resources Research Infrastructure (BBMRI), the European Research Infrastructure for Translational Medicine (EATRIS) and the European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (ECRIN) signed an agreement last week in Brussels to build a long-term sustainable collaboration strategy. The agreement lays the ground for facilitating user access to pan-European medical research  infrastructures and supporting the development of tools, joint services and common approaches on quality, standards and advocacy. As a result, the agreement will empower BBMRI, EATRIS and ECRIN to provide even better services to the biomedical community and to support a more costeffective research and development process.

"Mini-brains" for research on Alzheimer's disease

Researchers from SEPIA (François Jacob Institute of Biology) and CellTechs (Sup'Biotech engineering school), working in partnership with LEMM (Frédéric Joliot Institute for Life Sciences), all within or affiliated with the CEA, have developed a new approach for modeling Alzheimer's disease in vitro using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Their work builds upon the ability of iPSCs to differentiate into "mini-brains", that is, three-dimensional cellular structures recapitulating human brain development.

Alzheimer : identification of aggregates of potential target proteins

The propagation of tau assemblies in the brain contributes to the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers from NeurATRIS, at the Neurodegenerative Diseases Laboratory: mechanisms, therapies, imaging (CNRS/CEA/Université Paris-Sud, MIRCen), working in collaboration with the Ecole Normale Supérieure, Sorbonne University and Inserm, have just identified the targets of these assemblies. Published in the EMBO Journal on January 10, 2019, this work will enable the development of tools capable of blocking these key elements of aggregate propagation and thus combating their pathological effect.

EATRIS Combined Platform meeting 2018

The 2018 EATRIS Combined Platform Meeting will be held in Ljubljana on December 11th and 12th. Like in previous years, the Platform Combined Meeting will be the moment to discuss the EATRIS platform activities and future strategies together, providing formidable networking opportunities. This year the Platform Combined Meeting will also be followed by a two-day CORBEL open workshop on the theme of public-private collaboration. This 2-day event on 12th and 13th December 2018 (back to back with the Combined EATRIS Platform meeting in Ljubljana) will focus on all relevant aspects of setting up such collaborations, from initial contacts through planning and negotiation to completion of legal agreements and project implementation.

NeurATRIS will be present, and we would be very happy to meet you there !
